CTF – Chamber of secrets

 

Inspired from Harry Potter’s chamber of secrets, this level tries to create a dungeon like mood for a capture the flag scenario in Epic’s Unreal Tournament.

The level was designed as an exercise to incorporate modular art assets after the level greybox.

Aim : Using UNREAL TOURNAMENT create an original playable grey-box map, entirely within UNREAL TOURNAMENT EDITOR. (BSP only) Using a space from a work of non-video game fiction as a reference point, Design, Build, Test and Iterate a Team Capture the Flag level.

Process

The first step before doing any grey boxing was to come up with a narrative to infuse the worlds of Harry Potter and Unreal Tournament.

Story

In the year 2100, witches and wizards were hunted down by the technologically advanced muggles, putting an end to the magical world.

After a couple of decades when the Skaarg (An alien race) attack, humanity’s weapons fail to defend earth

The Lindari Mining Corporation stumbles upon the chamber of secrets where it finds the last remaining wizards who were stashed there by the order of the phoenix before every one was wiped out.

Humans try to wake the wizards but are met with resistance from the Skaarg.

The ensuing combat sets the premise for CTF-Chamber of secrets.
